CISSP in India

CISSP salary in India

There is no official CISSP® salary, but two public data sets give a fair picture. PayScale's India page for CISSP holders showed an average base salary of about ₹20 lakh a year (173 people reporting, updated 26 April 2026). AmbitionBox put the typical information security manager in India at ₹21.1 to ₹23.3 lakh a year (2.1k salaries, updated 27 October 2026).

What the data shows

Both sources are self-reported and change every month, so read them as ranges, not promises. We converted PayScale's figures to lakh (₹1,00,000 = 1 lakh) and rounded to one decimal place. Figures were checked on 28 October 2026.

CISSP holders in India by job title (PayScale)

Job titleAverage base salary
Cyber security analystabout ₹10 lakh
Cyber security engineerabout ₹16 lakh
Information security managerabout ₹27 lakh
IT security architectabout ₹31 lakh
Chief information security officerabout ₹31.5 lakh
IT directorabout ₹38.5 lakh
Vice president, ITabout ₹41.7 lakh

PayScale's figures come from a small group (173 people in total, split across these titles), so one or two reports can move a title's average a long way. The CISO figure sitting close to the architect figure is a sign of that, not a rule about the market.

Information security managers by experience (AmbitionBox)

This is the role, not CISSP holders specifically, but it is the role many candidates are aiming for.

ExperienceAverage salary range
3 to 6 years₹10.2 to ₹11.6 lakh
6 to 9 years₹19.6 to ₹21.8 lakh
9 to 12 years₹23.6 to ₹26.1 lakh
12 years and more₹26.6 to ₹29.4 lakh

By city and by industry (AmbitionBox, same role)

CityAverage salary rangeSalaries reported
Bengaluru₹20.2 to ₹22.5 lakh449
Gurugram₹14.7 to ₹18.7 lakh165
Pune₹14.6 to ₹18 lakh198
Chennai₹14.3 to ₹17.6 lakh191
Mumbai₹14.2 to ₹16.1 lakh350

Software product₹30.5 to ₹35.7 lakh
Financial services₹30.3 to ₹34.4 lakh
Banking₹18.1 to ₹20.6 lakh
IT services and consulting₹15.7 to ₹17.5 lakh

The industry gap is wider than the city gap. The same title pays very differently in a product company or an investment firm than in a services delivery role.

How to read these numbers

  • Experience drives most of it. You need 5 years of security work for the full credential, so CISSP holders are already mid-career. Part of the pay you see is that experience, not the four letters.
  • The credential opens doors more than it sets pay. AmbitionBox lists CISSP among the top skills for information security managers, next to CISM, CISA and ISO 27001. In practice it often decides whether your CV reaches the interview for a manager, architect or GRC lead role.
  • Self-reported data skews. People who report salaries are not a random sample, and job titles mean different things in different companies.
  • Base is not total. Bonuses, stock and allowances vary most in product and financial firms.

If you are early in your career

You cannot hold the full CISSP without the experience, so "CISSP salary for freshers" is not a real category. You can pass the exam first and become an Associate of ISC2, with 6 years to earn the experience. Check what counts, including part-time work and internships, on experience requirements.

How to research your own number

  1. Search your exact title and city on AmbitionBox, Glassdoor India and PayScale, and note the date and the number of reports behind each figure.
  2. Read live job listings on Naukri and LinkedIn for roles that ask for CISSP, and compare the bands they publish.
  3. Ask two recruiters who place security roles in your city; they see offers, not surveys.
  4. Check your company's internal bands with HR before your appraisal. A credential that moves you into the next band is worth more than a general rise.
  5. Write down the case: what the credential lets you take on (audits, architecture reviews, client security questionnaires) and what that is worth to your employer.

Using it in an appraisal

Most Indian appraisal cycles run March to April or around October. If you want the credential on your profile by then, work backwards from the date: the study plan generator builds that plan, and our promotion guide covers the conversation with your manager.
